Haiti and the Florida Bahamas Synod
The Division for Global Mission's Companion Synods Program establishes relationships between synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and companion synods or churches outside the United States of America. One of the Florida Bahamas Synod's companions is the country of Haiti.
In 2000, a trip was taken by representatives of the Florida Bahamas synod to attend the 3rd Assembly of the Federation de Lutheranne de Haiti (FLH). A trip synopsis is available here.
In 2001, another larger trip by the Florida Bahamas synod was taken to start construction of two churches as well as increase awareness in the synod.In April 2002, a group went to finish the roof on a church, review school and education needs, and meet with the coffee cooperatives in Thiotte.
